Background:

The provision of high-quality health care to individuals, families, and communities requires a skilled, motivated, adequately supported, and equipped health workforce. Many low- and middle-income countries, however, face significant deficiencies in both the quantity and quality of their health workforce. Suboptimal health worker performance creates challenges to national and global efforts to achieve Universal Health Coverage and Sustainable Development Goals. Numerous strategies exist to support improvements in health worker performance, but it can be difficult to make evidence-based decisions on which strategies to use in which settings.

Objectives:

  1. Disseminate results of the Health Care Provider Performance Review (HCPPR)

  2. Share current efforts, lessons learned, and future plans for improving health worker performance and health care quality in LMICs

  3. Identify potential approaches and/or areas of collaboration to contribute to global efforts to improve quality of care and advance the quality agenda in LMICs

  4. (Optional Afternoon Workshop): Orient participants to the HCPPR databases and hands-on analyses

Featuring:

  • Alex Rowe, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, on the HCPPR
