Join us for an engaging discussion and networking event with fellow singers navigating the challenges of audition season and early-career opera life. This session will feature a conversation with the author of Tracking YAP: Professionalism, amateurism and exploitation of emerging opera singers, a recent study examining the precarious realities of Young Artist Programs (YAPs) in North America. We’ll explore how these programs shape career trajectories, the structural and financial hurdles singers face, and the ways gender and institutional hierarchies impact opportunities.
Come for insight, community, and practical strategies to thrive in a competitive industry. You’ll have the chance to ask questions directly, share experiences with peers, and connect with others who understand the unique pressures of the operatic profession.
