About this event

Join Pioneer Works in a public opening celebration of Daniel Johnston: I Think, I Draw, I Am and Felix Rodriguez: Legendary Looks: My Ballroom Story.

Featuring archival work by filmmaker Felix Rodriguez, Legendary Looks: My Ballroom Story is part of a multi-site exhibition that explores the extraordinary artistry and cultural legacy of the house ballroom community. The multimedia installation highlights the crucial role that commentators—those who live narrate balls—play, while also chronicling their gradual, stylistic shifts between the 1990s and present day. The exhibition is co-curated by Jonovia Chase, Twiggy Pucci Garçon, and Michael Roberson, and organized in collaboration with ArtsWestchester and City Lore.

I Think, I Draw, I Am is the largest New York solo exhibition by musician and artist Daniel Johnston (1961-2019). Curated by Lee Foster, co-owner of Electric Lady Studios and Curatorial Advisor for the Daniel Johnston Trust, the exhibition reveals the psychological depth and formal inventiveness of Johnston’s comic-inspired drawings. Comprising over 300 drawings, it attests to the abundance of material he made during his restlessly creative life.
