Opening Reception: Blooms- Lora Barrett

During the month of September Wistariahurst Museum’s great hall will be filled with florals as we welcome in “Blooms”, an art exhibit by painter Lora Barrett. This exhibit will feature 99 vibrant paintings of flowers of varying sizes. An avid gardener, Lora Barrett maintains her gardens as a reference and muse for her highly colored paintings, pushing the vibrancy of the flowers to the limit. Wistariahurst Museum will be hosting a solo show of 99 of her floral paintings from September 2-25, 2025. 

Barrett’s artistic journey began with a childhood marked by curiosity and a passion for art. This passion was fueled by supportive parents and teachers. She carried her passion for the arts into her adulthood as she majored in Art at The College of Our Lady of the Elms and began teaching Art in Holyoke upon graduation. While teaching in Holyoke, she continued her studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where she earned a Doctorate in Education and later taught Art Education at the University. Barrett has received several awards throughout her life for her artwork and for her work in arts education. She has continued her education at Cape Cod School of Art, the Chatham Creative Arts Center, the En Plein Air Art School in France, and Snow Farm, among others. 

Barrett’s work has been shown in several galleries across the region, and Wistariahurst is excited to have her work in our halls once more. Her paintings are in personal collections in France, Canada, Mexico, Italy, England, and Ireland and in the permanent collection of the United States Federal Reserve in Washington, DC. 

The opening reception of  “Blooms” will be held Tuesday, September 2 from 4:30-7:00pm. Open Gallery Hours will be held on Mondays (10am-2pm) and Tuesdays (4:30pm-6:30pm) through September 25th, which will also be free and open to the public. We hope that you stop by and explore Lora Barrett’s “Blooms”.

Durante el mes de septiembre, el gran salón del Museo Wistariahurst se llenará de flores para dar la bienvenida a «Blooms», una exposición de arte de la pintora Lora Barrett. Esta exposición contará con 99 vibrantes pinturas de flores de diferentes tamaños. Lora Barrett, una apasionada de la jardinería, mantiene sus jardines como referencia y musa para sus pinturas de vivos colores, llevando la vitalidad de las flores al límite. El Museo Wistariahurst acogerá una exposición individual de 99 de sus pinturas florales del 2 al 25 de septiembre de 2025.

La trayectoria artística de Barrett comenzó con una infancia marcada por la curiosidad y la pasión por el arte. Esta pasión se vio alimentada por el apoyo de sus padres y profesores. Llevó su pasión por las artes a la edad adulta, ya que se especializó en Arte en el College of Our Lady of the Elms y comenzó a enseñar Arte en Holyoke tras graduarse. Mientras enseñaba en Holyoke, continuó sus estudios en la Universidad de Massachusetts Amherst, donde obtuvo un doctorado en Educación y más tarde enseñó Educación Artística en la Universidad. Barrett ha recibido varios premios a lo largo de su vida por sus obras de arte y por su trabajo en la educación artística. Ha continuado su formación en la Escuela de Arte de Cape Cod, el Centro de Artes Creativas de Chatham, la Escuela de Arte En Plein Air en Francia y Snow Farm, entre otros.

La obra de Barrett se ha expuesto en varias galerías de la región, y Wistariahurst se complace en volver a contar con ella en nuestras salas. Sus pinturas forman parte de colecciones privadas en Francia, Canadá, México, Italia, Inglaterra e Irlanda, así como de la colección permanente de la Reserva Federal de los Estados Unidos en Washington, D.C.

La inauguración de «Blooms» tendrá lugar el martes 2 de septiembre, de 16:30 a 19:00. El horario de apertura de la galería será los lunes (de 10:00 a 14:00) y los martes (de 16:30 a 18:30) hasta el 25 de septiembre, y será gratuito y abierto al público.
