Open Streets: West Walnut
Overview
Center City District (CCD) is pleased to announce a special holiday edition of Open Streets: West Walnut. CCD, with support from Rittenhouse Row and the City of Philadelphia, will transform one of Philadelphia’s most popular shopping and dining destinations, 18th Street from Locust to Chestnut and Walnut Street from Broad to 19th, by temporarily closing streets to vehicular traffic.
During these closures, pedestrians will be invited to stroll nearly eight blocks of car-free space while enjoying shopping, dining and activities for all ages. To mark this special edition of Open Streets: West Walnut, artists from Ice Sculpture Philly will build a baby grand piano made entirely of ice throughout the day. In the afternoon, spectators can enjoy a live performance. CCD will also provide ambient entertainment, including strolling bubble magic, a visit from Santa Clause, holiday carolers and more. A designated family-friendly zone will feature games and toys for families. The cross streets will remain open at select intersections, including 15th Street, 16th Street, 17th Street, 19th Street and the 1700 and 1800 blocks of Sansom Street.
