Open Data Day is an opportunity for communities all over the world to participate in local events on open data.

On Saturday, March 4th join us for an afternoon of conversations and collaboration.

Note: Please bring a valid government issued photo ID to enter the building.

1:00 - 1:10 Welcome with special guest Joe McArthur from Open Research Data do-a-thon in London

1:10 - 1:50 Panel: Open Data Truth, Lies, and Damned Statistics

2:00 - 4:40 Breakout Project Sessions

  • Sophia Liu from U.S. Geological Survey will be leading a GeoHackJam session, which will encourage the use of open data to tackle projects related to Critical Minerals, Threats to Biodiversity, and Crowdsourcing GeoApps. Check out the hackpad.
  • Representatives from MappingDC will be leading a session. MappingDC makes OpenStreetMap awesome in the DC area. They host ground-truth street surveys and mappy hours every other month. Recently they learned about Frederick Douglass and added over 100 places in Anacostia, DC to OpenStreetMap. MappingDC teaches the community on how they can build community by building OpenStreetMap.

4:40 - 5:00 Project Presentations
