Event description

Description

What should Bangor and Maine do next to address the opioid crisis?

You can help set priorities, together with candidates for governor.

The public is encouraged to attend the One Life Project: Public Priorities event where attendees will work together to select what both the Bangor region and Maine as a whole should do next to address the opioid epidemic.

The event will showcase a number of specific directions that have been proposed to help save lives. Through a discussion and voting process, attendees will vote for the initiatives they think are most important and urgent.

At the end of the night, participants as a group will have decided their top priority for changes in the region and their top priority in terms of state policy.

They will have heard speeches by Maine’s gubernatorial candidates, who will also participate in the priority-setting exercise.

This is the third One Life Project event, which was inspired by Garrett Brown, a young man from the state’s capital, who let the Bangor Daily News chronicle his life for two-and-a-half years. He died in November 2015 after overdosing on heroin. He let the public see his struggles because, as he said:

"If this changes one kid's life, saves one kid from being in jail, saves his family the pain of seeing him go through it, saves one kid from overdosing and dying, then all that I've done hasn't been in vain."

With our one life, let’s each help another.
