On The Tracks: free audio production workshop

By Yorkshire Sound Women Network

Overview

Use music software to create your own piece inspired by 200 years of railways in this workshop for women and gender-diverse people.

Start your sonic journey with this free audio production workshop inspired by 200 years of railway history!

As a companion to the Changing Gear: Railway 200 concert on 19 November, Yorkshire Sound Women Network invites you to a fun, friendly workshop at the University of York where you will enjoy a taste of music technology and create your own sound piece inspired by the sounds of modern railways.

Workshop leader and musician Sophie Russell will show you how to select your favourite clips from a collection of railway sound effects and use Ableton Live to make them into an electronic music track or atmospheric soundscape.

The workshop is for both students and non-students aged 16+. All equipment will be provided and you don’t need to have any previous experience with music technology to take part.

Please note: This workshop is intended for an audience of women and people of marginalised genders as a way to address the barriers they face when participating in music technology – we would like to remind you to please respect this when booking.

Accessibility: The workshop takes place in Room MRC/104 which offers step-free access on the first floor. View full accessibility info for the venue here.

The workshop will make use of computer workstations and keyboards; please get in touch by emailing info@yorkshiresoundwomen.com if you have any additional access requirements that would make it easier for you to enjoy this event.

Evening concert: If you enjoy the workshop, why not stay for the Changing Gear: Railway 200 concert in the University's Rymer auditorium at 7.30pm (doors open 6.45pm), featuring three new electronic pieces inspired by railways. Tickets cost £5 and can be booked here.
