Curated by Ingrid TS Rodriguez and featuring works from Rodriguez, Brianna Ortiz Van Schoyck, Cassidy Early, and TJ Kiser, the show seeks to illustrate the duality and complexities of the human experience under these tumultuous times. The work of each artist captures the whispers of our desires, the audacity of our dreams, and the depths of our individual and collective sorrow. With identity and lived experience intertwined in each artwork, “On Being” exposes the diverse nuances of our respective realities, creating the opportunity to enhance empathy and understanding.
“On Being” presents a multitude of media and various techniques that encapsulate the vast range of emotions they aim to visualize and depict. These diverse depictions of existing range from large abstract paintings to intimate installation pieces. The exhibition, like their works, is layered. Rodriguez states, “art celebrates community and interprets the individual and collective universe; it explores the magnitudes existing within our inner and external worlds.”
Join the artists, convene with community, and dance a little at the show’s opening on Saturday, June 28th, 6-10pm at Hairpin Arts Center: 2810 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60618.
