Overview

Omowale: The Child Who Has Come Home — a staged reading of one artist’s 30-year journey across Africa and the UK to find identity and home.

Join us for an intimate evening of storytelling, reflection, and cultural homecoming as Omowale brings to life one man’s journey across continents, identities, and artistic boundaries.

About the Production

Omowale — a Yoruba name meaning “the child who has come home” — is a powerful dramatic story that chronicles the extraordinary journey of a young African American thespian who set out to spend one year abroad in Africa... and stayed for thirty.

Trained in Western theatre traditions and disheartened by the distorted portrayals of both Africans and African Americans, his journey began as an artistic pilgrimage — a quest to reclaim truth through storytelling. What followed was a transformative odyssey of self-discovery, cultural immersion, and creative resistance.

Across decades spent between Africa and the UK, he evolved into a celebrated international theatre director and artist activist. Through trials, revelations, and moments of profound awakening, Omowale explores what it truly means to come home — to one’s roots, purpose, and humanity.
