OHC25: M47 Architects [Open Access]

Nestled against an old kaju tree is the home and office of Sapuni Hettiarachchi and Nimantha Nanayakkara, the partners of M47 Architects. Constructed from an old shipping container, the design explores compact living in the Sri Lankan urban context. The transformation of the container, which sits above the ground on a steel structure and includes a three-foot extension made from residual container cutoffs, offers a highly functional and practical space to live and work.

Visitors to the property will find an example of minimal living that questions the extent of human consumption, and offers solutions for living simply and harmoniously with the surrounding environment.
