OHC25: Local Maker Studio [Tour]
Overview
Within the lush suburbs of Nawala, sits a bustling design space with public craft- and skill-based workshops. Known as the Local Maker Studio, these weekly creative sessions are a collaboration with the design studio GeoBlox and its founder Kanil Dias Abeyagunawardene.
Led by a variety of artisans, artists, design experts, and small arts-based organisations, Local Maker Studio workshops are created to keep minds and hands busy through practical learning whilst encouraging interdisciplinary collaborations and networking. When creating the GeoBlox studio and workshop, Kanil wanted to include a space for experimentation, hands-on production, and collaboration. The Local Maker Studio is one way the space is working with the city’s arts and design community.
Local Maker Studio will host regular demonstrations throughout the weekend, offering visitors the chance to see specialised design tools in use and explore the potential of automated and computerised machinery.
