October? Honestly... A Playback Theatre Performance

Join Forge and UAB Arts in Medicine for a special performance featuring UAB Arts in Medicine’s resident Playback Theatre company, Heart 2 Heart Playback, where through empathetic listening trained actors will bring real stories to life on stage through improvised movement, music, and dialogue.

While this event is open for anyone to attend, we will only be inviting those impacted by breast cancer: patients, survivors, friends, caregivers/ advocates, medical staff, and loved ones to share their stories. In a month that can feel complicated, this gathering offers a space for reflection, connection, and shared experience.

UAB Arts in Medicine (AIM) is a program that brings the healing power of the arts to hospitals, the community, and beyond. Since 2013, AIM has provided activities including art, music, and creative workshops to patients, their families, and healthcare workers. By bringing artists and therapists into these spaces, AIM offers moments of joy and relaxation, making challenging times a bit brighter.

Heart 2 Heart (H2H) Playback is the resident Playback Theatre company of UAB Arts in Medicine. Founded in October 2024, H2H Playback exists to support the mission of UAB Arts in Medicine through theatre. The company currently has 12 members and has performed for hundreds of people since their inception. If you are interested in learning more or booking a show with Heart 2 Heart Playback, please contact Cristal L. Brister at clbrister@uab.edu.

What is Playback Theatre?

Playback Theatre is an art form where people share their real-life stories and through deep, skillful listening and performance, the essence of those stories is reflected on the spot. Here is a link that goes more in depth: https://truestorytheater.com/about-us/raves/the-power-of-playback/.
