Overview

Help us improve the California Least Tern Preserve at Huntington State Beach!

We're excited to invite you to a hands-on habitat restoration project aimed at improving the nesting habitat of the endangered California Least Tern (Sterna antillarum browni). Help us by removing trash and invasive/introduced plant species to allow space for native plant species to reestablish. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about coastal dune ecosystems, native species, and to directly support the recovery of an endangered species.

Where to meet: We'll follow up with detailed instructions via email before the event.

Parking: Parking will be free for volunteers!

Restrooms: Public Restrooms are available at Huntington State Beach

What to Bring: Wear layers for varying weather conditions, bring sun protection (e.g., hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, etc.), closed-toed shoes, and a refillable water bottle.

Provided by Us: Tools and gloves (feel free to bring your own) and a water bottle refill station.

Waivers: All participants need to sign two waivers:

  1. HBWC/OCH Waiver: If you’ve not worked with us in the current year, please complete our waiver form online or be prepared to sign a hard copy at the event.
  2. Huntington State Beach Waiver: This will be provided on-site and must be signed before participating.

We look forward to having you join us in the field!
