CALL FOR ARTISTS: 16th Annual Object Afterlife Art Challenge!

MECCA is thrilled to announce the 16th Annual Object Afterlife Art Challenge, a unique and creativity opportunity for artists to push their creative boundaries while promoting environmental sustainability. We're calling on artists to transform scrap materials into thought-provoking works of art, bridging the gap between fine art and scrap art. Join the challenge today for your chance to compete against other amazing artists and win cool prizes!

The Challenge:

  • Receive a mystery bag of scrap materials and create a new piece of art within three months
  • Use all or part of the materials provided, and feel free to incorporate other mediums
  • Submit your artwork between September 9th-16th at MECCA (555 High Street, Eugene, OR)


Important Dates:

  • Artist sign-up deadline: May 31st (or when we reach 100 applicants)
  • Art pick-up: starts Tuesday, June 3rd at MECCA
  • Art drop-off: September 9th-16th at MECCA
  • Art show and awards ceremony: October 3rd, 5:30-8 pm


Participate and Support MECCA:

  • Limited to 100 artists (We sell out fast every year!)
  • Entry fee: sliding scale from $25-$50. There are multiple ticket tiers to choose from. Pay what you can to support MECCA's arts program!
  • Participating artists receive $15 in MECCA money to spend in our shop


Join the Creative Movement:
Object Afterlife elevates the realm of re-use art, engages the local art community, inspires the creative reuse of unwanted materials, and raises awareness of our universal need to re-imagine the objects around us in a fun and creative way. Artists of all interests and mediums are welcome to participate!

Can I swap materials with another OA artist?

No. This is an art challenge, and in the spirit of the event, trading materials is not allowed. The process of working with restricted or challenging materials can be a powerful experience as an artist.

Can I work with another artists as a team for the Object Afterlife Challenge?

Yes! Be sure to credit all artists in your team.

Is this open to all ages?

Yes! All ages, abilities, mediums and disciplines are encouraged.

Is there a certain percentage of the final piece that needs to be made from the mystery materials?

No, as long as the materials inspire the design, we do not track percentages.

Refunds?

Unfortunately no. This is a fundraiser for MECCA.
