NYU Game Center Career Week 2020
Event Information
About this event
The NYU Game Center is proud to present Career Week 2020! This year, in lieu of our in-person annual Strategy Guide event, we’ve got a full week of career-oriented programming for students and alumni alike. If you’re just starting to think about your future career, you’re already applying to positions, or you’re just looking for an excuse to dust off your application materials, Career Week is here for you!
Starting May 4th, each day of the week will feature one or more live events to help you navigate the waters of finding and applying for jobs alongside a daily email featuring job opportunities, advice from alumni, and other resources. We’ve also got alumni volunteers ready to give feedback on resumes and portfolios, plus useful information sessions from the Office of Global Services, Wasserman Center for Career Development, and Tisch Office of Career Development.
All Career Week events are open to NYU Game Center Graduate and Undergraduate students and alumni only. Links to all Zoom Meetings for Game Center-led events will be sent to RSVPs as well as posted in the NYU Game Center Slack. For TOCD & OGS events, you must register directly with them to receive the Zoom links. To sign-up for One-on-One Reviews with NYU Game Center Alumni, fill out this form.
NOTE: All event times are in EST.
Below are individual event descriptions. Please RSVP to each event you'd like to attend. A separate zoom link will be emailed to you the day of the event.
Tuesday, May 5 from 1-2:30pm EST - Career Coworking: Resume Edition
Feeling totally stumped every time you sit down to work on your resume? Need some prompts to help get you going? Just want to commiserate with others about how tricky it is to explain your skills in bullet points? Come to Career Coworking: Resume Edition! Join Toni's zoom co-working room and we'll work on them together.
Wednesday, May 6 from 10am-12pm EST - Career Coworking: Website/Portfolio Edition
Get inspired to fix up (or start!) your website or portfolio, in this career co-working session. Toni's hosting another zoom co-working session to debate Cargo vs Squarespace vs itch, contemplate custom domains, share what to include on a project page, and to get some work done! Come co-work, it's never too soon to update your website!
Thursday May 7 at 5:30pm EST - NYC Studio Q&A with Arkadium*
Join us for a live studio Q&A with NYC based game studio Arkadium. They'll give us a quick overview of their studio, talk about open positions, and then we'll open up to some Q&A with 3 current employees (who all happen to be NYU alums!). David Or (Director of Interactive Content & Product Engineering), Michael Scrivner (Marketing Manager), and Anne Dong (Senior People Innovation Business Partner) will be around to answer questions about their game design process, current openings, and share information about applying. *This zoom will be recorded & available after the live session.
Friday May 8 at10:30am EST - LinkedIn 101 + LinkedIn Coworking*
If you're wondering what LinkedIn is, how to use it, or want more information on the benefits and quirks of the platform, this session is for you! More and more companies are requiring applicants to submit a LinkedIn profile in order to apply, so you should have one ready to use! Toni will overview some background info and share tips to get the most out of the platform, followed by some coworking time to start or update your own profiles. Toni wishes she could provide snacks for this one! *This zoom will be recorded & available after the live session.
