About this event
New York City — the largest and foremost of America’s urban centers — is famed for the tight-knit character of its many residential districts spread across its five boroughs. From the glitter of the Upper West Side to the distant shores of City Island and Lighthouse Hill, it's time to explore these distinctive slices of the Big Apple and see how they shaped the identity of the city’s cultural and architectural landscape.
Join New York Adventure Club for a four-part series on the history of New York City's neighborhood architecture, with a focus on some of Gotham's most celebrated addresses — and a few that have avoided the radar. In Part Four: The Bronx & Staten Island, we'll venture to the final two boroughs to tour their many hidden treasures.
Led by architectural historian David V. Griffin of Landmark Branding, this digital showcase featuring a selection of unique structures will include:
- A brief overview of the Bronx’s status as a center of social housing
- A close look at the old sailing culture that once dominated Staten Island
- The development of New York City’s Harbor
- Unexpected treasures around the boroughs, such as the city’s only Tibetan art museum, its largest forest, and a library modeled after the Pantheon in Rome
- Architectural highlights from around the borough, including historic campuses, famed murals, and local spots
- An in-depth look at each building's construction, context, and current status, with a focus on how culture and innovation drive architectural symbolism
Afterward, we'll have a Q&A with David — any and all questions about these unique buildings are welcomed and encouraged!

Testimonials
"David is excellent as always. He is a wealth of information and presents the content in such a fun way. His eye for little details makes every talk unique, even when I know the area very well." -Carly
"Always a good speaker with good slides." -Heidi
"It showed buildings from the Bronx that I had never seen before." -Patricia
"I have been to the Bronx and Staten Island but saw things I have never seen." Bethene
"This whole series was so well done. I know any webinar with David will be first rate. There is always interesting content and many times he is able to speak of his personal experience or connection to places. Which is really cool. I like his sly and dry humor he interjects very subtlety. Looking forward to the next series or whatever else he is doing next." -Noelle
"Learned more about the 2 boroughs" -Julia
"I live in NYC and never saw most of these terrific buildings- Loved the history and learning so much about my own city. I take all of David's webinars- he is an amazing lecturer- and i love his use of language in his descriptions of various buildings and places." -Susan
