NOW IS THE TIME OF MONSTERS : Why horror films speak to a time of crisis

By Cambridge Socialist Workers Party

Overview

Sally Campbell will discus horror films in relation to crisis, struggle and resistance. Illustrated with clips and accompanied by curry!

The horror genre has often been dismissed as sexist and exploitative, but the new wave of horror films in the past decade contains social critique – from Get Out to Sinners, The Babadook to The Substance. Sally Campbell will talk about how and why the horror genre is particularly able to speak to us at a time of genocide, the rise of the far right, and attacks on bodily autonomy.
