Overview

How Do We Address Us/Them Thinking? with Lama Tsomo

Join Namchak teacher Lama Tsomo for November’s One Community gathering as we explore how to move beyond “us/them,” reconnect with our shared humanity, and practice compassion together.

This month’s Sangha gathering: Tuesday, November 11, 5:30-7:00 pm MST

Location: Online or in person in Missoula, MT

Lama Tsomo will not be teaching in-person. For those located in Missoula, you are welcome to join a group who will meet at the Namchak office to receive this teaching together. For those unable to join the in-person group, the teaching will be live-streamed via Zoom.

Overview of Evening Talk

It can feel as though the world is increasingly divided — by beliefs, identities, and even the stories we tell about who we are. This “Us/Them” mentality can quietly take root in our minds and hearts, shaping how we see others and ourselves. In many ways, this tendency is woven into our human conditioning — a habit of the mind meant to keep us safe, yet one that can also create separation, fear, and suffering, both individually and collectively.

The good news is: we can work with this affliction. Through awareness, compassion, and practice, we can begin to soften these divisions and remember our shared belonging.

Join Lama Tsomo for this One Community gathering as she explores how Tibetan Buddhist teachings can help us move beyond “othering” and reconnect with our innate compassion. Together, we’ll engage in a practice that helps us transform our perception — opening our hearts to those we might once have seen as “them.”

When we come together in community, our individual intentions and actions amplify one another. Practicing compassion collectively helps us heal not only ourselves but the greater ocean that we are all part of.

About One Community

Each month, we come together for an evening of learning and discussion to deepen our understanding of the dharma and our connection with sangha. Led by a Namchak teacher, thought leader, or staff member, each gathering revolves around a specific topic and lasts 90 minutes.

The session begins with a dharma talk and is followed by a Q&A with the teacher.

We invite Learning Circles, meditation buddies, and individuals to join us, and encourage you to bring friends, family, neighbors, or co-workers along to share in the experience!
