November 2025 Reciprocity

I hope that you all are well as we navigate these challenging times.

Over 17 years ago, I started the Bay Area Black Professionals Group to network with other professionals who worked in the Bay Area. Around 2008, we started our monthly in-person networking meeting called "Reciprocity", which provided each participant the opportunity to do the following:

1.) Introduce themselves and tell everyone what they do for a living;

2.) If they are not doing what they WANT to do, tell everyone what they WANT to do;

3.) Then, tell everyone what a good referral for them is (ex. intro to sales prospects, recruiters, resume writer, etc.)

At the end of the meeting, people could exchange contact information and facilitate the needed introductions.

This became very popular after the last economic crisis in 2008-2009 and lasted for several years. It led to us hosting Career Mentorship Symposiums and other needed events for the Bay Area Professional Community. Now, with the shift in the New Administration's priorities and African American unemployment rate has risen to 18%, it is more important than ever to network for career opportunities.

Many people have expressed that they have been caught in massive lay-offs and widespread reduction in force notices. After giving this some thought and consideration, I have decided to bring back Reciprocity.
