About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

Join us for a special NoC Learning Call introducing the AI Policy Observatory, an initiative hosted by the University of Zurich’s Institute of Law and Kyoto University, in collaboration with colleagues from around the world. This Observatory is a dynamic, research-driven platform designed to map, analyze, and compare national AI strategies and governance frameworks globally. Uniquely, the Observatory brings together experts and dedicated country teams from around the world who are responsible for continuously updating and monitoring the data for each country. This structure makes it one of the most impactful and high-quality collaborative platforms available for tracking and understanding global AI governance.

As the rapid development and deployment of artificial intelligence continues to reshape societies, the need for comparative, accessible, and evidence-based insights into national regulatory approaches becomes increasingly urgent. The AI Policy Observatory addresses this need by offering an interactive and continuously updated tool for researchers, policymakers, and civil society to better understand the evolving global AI governance landscape.

This session will showcase the Observatory’s key features and methodology, including:

  • The criteria used to evaluate and compare national AI strategies
  • Insights into trends and divergences in AI regulation
  • Opportunities for collaboration and contributions from NoC centers

We will also discuss the broader significance of tracking global AI policy developments, and how this Observatory can serve as a shared resource to foster regulatory learning and cooperation.Learn more about the observatory: https://aipolicy.ius.uzh.ch/

The Global Network of Internet and Society Research Centers (NoC) is a collaborative initiative among academic institutions with a focus on interdisciplinary research on the development, social impact, policy implications, and legal issues concerning the Internet. This collective aims to increase interoperability between participating centers in order to stimulate the creation of new cross-national, cross-disciplinary conversation, debate, teaching, learning, and engagement regarding the most pressing questions around new technologies, social change, and related policy and regulatory developments.
