On 18 October, I’m playing transit host to my friends, Kate and Muffy, neither of whom has ever ridden a Metro train but who have expressed interest in getting on board!
I thought it might be fun to open up their first ride to other train newbies. Kate and Muffy gave their consent. So if you’ve never taken the train but are train-curious – or you just want to ride along and maybe bring with you train-curious friends, let's do it!
The plan is to meet us at Union Station at 11:00am -- in the waiting room (enter through the main entrance). From there, we’ll head to the eastern terminus of the E Line. And from there, we’ll head west all the way to Santa Monica, hopping off and on along the way, checking out the sites and grabbing some bites (and drinks?) along the way.
There are so many attractions along the E Line that we can’t see them all but we’ll be sure to check out some -- depending on how we're all feeling. Just to give you an idea, there's El Mercadito, Mariachi Plaza, the Japanese Village Plaza, Grand Avenue/Bunker Hill, Exposition Park/The Natural History Museum, the architecture of Culver City’s Hayden Tract, Bergamot Station Art Center, Ye Olde King's Head, the Santa Monica Pier, and more.
There's no end time but, to be safe, plan on taking all day...
