NJCTE and Drew Writing Project-- Spring Conference 2026

By New Jersey Council of Teachers of English (NJCTE)

Overview

Seeking Balance: Responsive and Responsible Teaching in Challenging Times

For our 2026 spring conference, NJCTE and Drew Writing Project have partnered to grapple with the idea of balance, specifically what it looks like and feels like if our teaching is both "responsive" and "responsible." In their work together, Kylene Beers and Bob Probst argue that "responsible" readers "know how to set aside their own beliefs and dispositions to consider what a text has to offer." "Responsive" readers "understand that reading can help them develop intelectually and emotionally." Both, they contend, are essential to prepare today's students for their immediate realities and what lies ahead.

When you purchase a ticket, your NJCTE membership is included with the price.

Looking forward to a great conference!
