About this event

Want to turn your manure into a valuable resource? Would you like to reduce your manure disposal and fertilizer costs? Be more environmentally friendly?

The NJ Department of Agriculture (NJDA) has developed a two-part FREE course taught by the NJ Composting Council, NJDA, and Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) designed to teach how to properly handle, store, compost and utilize horse manure and more.

Part One of the course is an online workshop designed to teach the fundamentals of how to compost, manure and nutrient management, guidelines and regulations, and how to take advantage of NRCS funding opportunities. While highlighting composting with horse manure, the principles of composting remain the same. This course is appropriate for any setting, from backyard gardens to field crops, and anyone wanting to learn more about horse manure handling and composting.

To attend this webinar on Tuesday May 13th from 5:00 - 7:00pm EDT continue the registration on this page. Note: a link to the zoom call will be sent as part of your confirmation email (more info in FAQs below).

Part Two of the course is an in-person field day on Tuesday May 27th from 5-8pm. The field day will focus on composting horse manure and wood shavings bedding on a small 8-10 animal unit farm. It will include demonstrations of composting technique, calibrating a manure-spreader, hands-on demonstration stations, and discussion of incorporation of compost into pasture, crop, and nursery operations based on actual soil and compost composition results.

Funding for this course is provided by the USDA NRCS.
