Vashon Repertory Theatre and Vashon Teen Visionary Ensemble Present
NEXT TO NORMAL
Music by Tom Kitt, Book & Lyrics by Brian Yorkey
NEXT TO NORMAL explores how one suburban household copes with crisis and mental illness. Winner of three 2009 Tony Awards, including Best Musical Score and the 2010 Pulitzer Prize, NEXT TO NORMAL was also chosen as "one of the year's ten best shows" by critics around the country, including The Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, Rolling Stone and The New York Times.
Presented by the Vashon Teen Visionary Ensemble, part of Vashon Repertory Theatre's new youth education programming, this is our first annual summer teen musical. The show was chosen by our Teen Advisory Board, which has helped to guide and shape the future of our youth programs, and was free for our young actors to participate in.
Please select CHECK AVAILABILITY to purchase tickets. Show runs August 7th-17th, with Thursday, Friday, and Saturday shows at 7pm, and Sunday shows at 2pm.
NEXT TO NORMAL is presented through special arrangement with Music Theare International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI. www.mtishows.com

Both will take place from 5:30pm-6:30pm. Opening Night Receptions are both a fundraiser for our youth program, as well as a unique experience for our audience. We will have desserts and beverages, as well as a silent auction of items, experiences, and more donated by our local community. Tickets for these events are donation only and limited to the venue capacity of 60 people per night. All donations will go directly to funding our youth programs, and will help us with our mission of providing free or affordable youth theatre for the Vashon community.
Double Casting
This production has double-cast two roles (Natalie and Dr. Madden). All actors perform in all shows, alternating into the ensemble when not playing their principal role. VASHON REPERTORY THEATRE - Youth Program General Information
MISSION & VALUES
Our goal is to build an accessible and affordable youth theatre program for Vashon Island youth. Program framework focuses on recreational theatre, which prioritizes youth development over the often stressful environment of high-pressure theatre productions. We create a positive, nurturing space which allows young actors to thrive and find their moments in the spotlight. Every actor is cast in every show, and no family is ever turned away due to inability to afford program fees.
DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION
We believe that theatre is a powerful tool for self-expression, connection, and community-building. We are committed to fostering an environment where all young people, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, ability, or background, feel welcomed, valued, and heard. Our program seeks to amplify underrepresented voices, celebrate individuality, and encourage creative exploration in an atmosphere of respect and mutual support. We are dedicated to ensuring equal opportunities for participation, providing accessible resources, and supporting the unique needs of every participant.
