Mustard Destruction Collaboration with Nature Nexus Institute

About this event

  • Event lasts 6 hours
  • Ages 18+

We are so excited to have our FIRST ever Mustard Destruction Nature Restoration Collaboration with Nature Nexus Institute. Removing invasive mustard plants helps restore balance to Los Angeles ecosystems by giving native plants—many of which support pollinators, wildlife, and fire resistance—a chance to thrive. For humans, it’s a powerful reminder that healing sometimes means clearing what doesn’t belong, to make space for new growth in both land and life.

***PLEASE ROUTE YOUR CAR TO DON LORENZO & LA BREA!

DO NOT ENTER THE LA CIENEGA ENTRANCE OF KENNETH HAHN PARK OR YOU WILL MISS THE HIKE***

Our Mission Statement:

Hike to Yoga is a nonprofit community initiative making mindful movement, nature connection, and holistic wellness accessible to all. We bring together diverse groups for guided hikes, yoga in nature, and heart-centered connection—creating spaces of healing, belonging, and embodied joy in the outdoors.

FEATURED IN THE LA TIMES!

Our future goals:

  1. Hike to Yoga becomes a collective of amazing Integrative Nature Yoga Instructors AKA Peace Warriors who activate parks and green spaces in LA County.
  2. Raise money to build a website where we can highlight all the parks where Hike to Yoga is available as a public service. If you have experience in fundraising or want to learn grantwriting, please reach out!
  3. Build a team who can showcase our impact and outreach with social media, email and video. If you are excited about our mission, want to be part of a movement, and put new skills in practice, let us know by sending a DM to Instagram @hiketoyogala!

Frequently asked questions

Can I bring my dog and/or young children?

We ask that you leave dogs and children at home so you can be fully present in community. Also, our hike is moderate level and could be good for teenagers as long as their guardian is present.

What is the parking situation?

There is street parking at Don Lorenzo and La Brea. However, it is recommended to arrive by 8:30 AM in order to find a spot, park and find the East Entrance so we can start on time!

Where are we meeting?

Safely cross La Brea street and enter the park through East Entrance, located at the stairs at the Don Lorenzo and La Brea intersection. Meet at the big map sign. Tip: Follow people with mats on their backs!

What should I bring?

Make sure to bring your yoga mat and secure it with some kind of strap or bag so you don't need to hold it during the hike. Water, sunblock, hat and/or sweater are good things to have! Tip: Check the weather and put together your things by the door before bed.

Why should you participate in this monthly mini urban retreat?

For both our inner/outer gardens to grow, we must remove what doesn’t belong—invasive thoughts, habits, or yes… even invasive mustard plants. Together, we’ll hike, move, and give back to the land by helping clear invasive species so native plants—and our own intentions—have space to thrive.
