Event description

Description

Join Diane Taraz for a wide-ranging trip through centuries of ingenious inventions, viewed through the lens of popular song. People have always sung about their experiences, and the intersection of music and technology is fascinating.

Diane explores household “labor-saving” devices, mills filled with machinery for creating cloth and other goods, innovations in weaponry that drove the evolution of military tactics, and innovations such as the telegraph, telephone, bicycle, and automobile that ushered in the modern age.

Diane accompanies her singing on guitar and dulcimer, and wears appropriately antique clothing.

This is Diane's second performance at the Charles River Museum of Industry and Innovation. She delighted her first audience here last December with her program "Factory Maids: Songs of the Mill Girls." You can view videos from that perfomance of "Doffin' Mistress" and "The Song of the Weavers and The Song of the Spinners."

This performance begins at 2:30pm and is included with the day's Museum admission. You're also welcome to purchase tickets for this performance only if you like!
