New Board Member Reception & Open House
Hosted by the King-Tisdell Cottage Foundation
📅 Sunday, June 8, 2025
🕓 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM
📍 Beach Institute African American Cultural Center, 502 E Harris St, Savannah, GA

Join us as we celebrate new leadership and honor our mission to preserve and promote Savannah’s African American heritage. This special event will welcome the newest members of the King-Tisdell Cottage Foundation Board and offer the public a unique opportunity to explore our historic sites and vibrant cultural work.

Located in the heart of Savannah’s historic Beach Institute neighborhood, the event will take place at the Beach Institute African American Cultural Center—originally founded in 1865 as the first building constructed explicitly for the education of emancipated African Americans. Guests are invited to enjoy tours of the Beach Institute and the King-Tisdell Cottage, a restored Victorian home celebrating Black entrepreneurship, culture, and resilience.

🎨 Event Highlights:

  • Meet and greet with new board members and staff.
  • Guided tours of both museum sites.
  • Spotlight on our current exhibit: The Art of Richard Law.

🌱 Recurring Programs Include:

  • Kwanzaa
  • Super Museum Sunday
  • Seed Swap Days
  • Heritage Cooking and Gardening Classes
  • Public Lectures and Panel Discussions
  • Community Art Exhibits and Archives Pop-Ups

With a capital campaign underway, the Foundation is actively working to restore and enhance its facilities while expanding its educational and cultural offerings. Businesses, civic leaders, and community members are invited to attend and explore opportunities for partnership through sponsorship, volunteerism, or in-kind support.

🗣️ “This event is not just a celebration of leadership—it’s a reaffirmation of our commitment to honoring the African American legacy that has shaped Savannah.”
– Jerry Q. Greene, Sr., Chairman
