NEW 2-Day Silkscreen & Encaustic Mono-Printing Workshop
Overview
February 21st & 22nd from 9:30 am-3:30pm each day
Take your monoprinting practice to the next level with this immersive two-day workshop blending silkscreen techniques with advanced encaustic monoprinting. You’ll silkscreen your own prints, then transform your prints through encaustic layering, color, texture, and composition. Expect to leave with a small series of dynamic, multi-layered prints that reflect your personal style.
All materials are included.
Optional, bring any tools or specialty papers you’d like to experiment with.
DAY ONE: Advanced Silkscreen Techniques + Print Foundations
- Demonstration of coating, exposing, and washing out a silkscreen
- Why a second exposure matters and how it strengthens your image
- How to tape, apply separators, and properly work with a silkscreen
- Access to 6 pre-burned silkscreens to use and share
- Techniques for modifying a silkscreen to create variations and layered effects
- Practice prints on test papers
- Final silkscreen printing on Rives Lightweight paper to prepare for Day Two encaustic work
Note: If you pop a silkscreen, there is a $50 replacement fee—once popped, a screen can't be repaired.
DAY TWO: Encaustic Layering, Color, & Composition
Using a heated encaustic hot-box and a range of encaustic tools, you’ll explore:
- Techniques and tools for applying encaustic color
- Layering strategies, composition approaches, and how to add depth
- Developing a series of prints, starting with your practice paper prints and then moving to your silkscreened Rives Lightweight prints
WHO THIS WORKSHOP IS FOR:
Ideal for students who have completed an introductory encaustic class or have basic experience with encaustic monoprinting. This Level 2 workshop balances skill-building with creative exploration—no pressure, just a supportive space to expand your practice.
WORKSHOP INCLUDES:
- All materials, including encaustic wax, heated plates, tools, & paper
(Note:If there are tools or papers you would like to experiment with please bring them!) - Guidance from Ashton Lacy Jones, a Listed Teaching Artist for R& F Handmade Paints
ADDITIONAL DETAILS:
- This an in-person event will be held at 1321 Coffman St.
- Rain, snow, or shine, and the colder the better!
With 6 of us working, the studio it will heat up! - Bring a picnic lunch and a beverage
- Wear comfortable shoes and bring an apron if you would like
- Ample parking on the street and in front of the studio
