The Grass Valley–Nevada City Cultural District has awarded a mini-grant to offer a Fall Color Tree Walk with arborist Zeno Acton of Acton Arboriculture on Saturday, November 8, from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. Participants should meet at Robinson’s Plaza in front of the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce office at 2:00 p.m.

This free community event is coordinated by grantee Pamela Biery, with arborist Zeno Acton leading the walk.

Explore Nevada City’s Heritage Trees

Bring your cell phone and follow along with the new Grass Valley–Nevada City Cultural District App, which features a wide range of resources, including the updated asynchronous Tree Tour. The app was produced through collaboration between the Nevada County Arts Council and the Nevada City and Grass Valley Chambers of Commerce.

Special thanks to Stuart Baker, outgoing Nevada City Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, for his dedication to this new digital resource.

Designed as a walking guide to the Trees of Nevada City, the original Tree Tour map was first produced in 2008, updated in 2017, and now enters its third generation as a fully functional mobile app.

Spend a Saturday afternoon exploring Nevada City’s heritage trees with Arborist Zeno Acton, who will share insights on key specimens, their unique attributes, and how to select appropriate planting sites for different tree species. Zeno Acton is an ISA Board Certified Master Arborist with over 24 years of experience and has been a volunteer consultant on the Nevada City Tree Tour since its inception.

The walk covers less than one mile through Nevada City’s central district. A brief historical overview will precede the tour, along with a quick introduction to the new app.

There is no charge for the walk; however, donations are welcome and will support an Arbor Day tree planting in the spring of 2026.

Prepare for the Tree Tour by getting the new App.
