Overview

A neuroaffirmative space for Black and Global majority folks to explore mental health and wellbeing in a colonial world.

Our group invites Black and Global Majority neurodivergent (or questioning) folks to connect with themselves and each other outside the gaze of pathologising systems. In a world shaped by colonialism, anti-Blackness, and norms designed to police different ways of being, neurodivergence is often misread, misunderstood, and silenced.

Over the course of 90 minutes, we will explore how culture, history, and collective memory shape the ways we experience and express neurodivergence. Disrupting colonial narratives that have framed difference as disorder and emotional expression as threat, we will hold the grief, brilliance and creativity that emerge outside of inherited norms.

Our collective intention includes the following questions:
✨ How to unmask and support ourselves through fear of policing or judgment
✨ How racialised norms shape relationships, labour, rest, and self-perception
✨ Grounding practices to support the nervous system
✨ Community care rooted in liberation and cultural affirmation

This is a space where stimming, silence, movement, emotion, and rest are all welcome. Nothing about you needs to be tamed or explained.

Facilitator - Carine Ponin (they/she)

Carine is a neurodivergent, queer, mixed-race coach who supports individuals in embracing their unique minds and identities. They help people release the shame and feelings of inadequacy that often come from holding identities that society does not (yet) celebrate. Carine creates safe, empowering spaces for neurodivergent individuals — especially those with marginalised identities — to explore who they are, reclaim a sense of self, and confidently take up space in the world. Through coaching, workshops, and training, they guide people to show up authentically and live more fulfilling lives.
