Net Bag Weaving Workshop

Overview

Learn to make a net bag using traditional fishnet weaving techniques and tools. This bag is perfect for urban foraging!

Fishnet weaving is an ancient skill that is still used throughout the world today. Its applications are endless, but while catching fish in the Hudson River with our nets would be extra fun, this time we will stick to weaving bags.

This workshop is ideal for those who crave to work with their hands- this class is open to all skill levels. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided, please bring glasses if you need them for fine work.

This class is led by artist and educator Marieclaire Wyntreaux of wyntro in collaboration with Held Studio.

About the artist:

Marieclaire Wyntreaux is a Brooklyn-based artist and educator specializing in ancestral crafts. Her work centers on natural materials sourced from the Northeast bioregion. Through her project Wyntro, she collaborates with farmers, tanners, and craftspeople to create garments and accessories from materials grown and harvested within 300 miles of New York City. Rooted in ancestral craft traditions and guided by the textures of wood, wool, and leather, Wyntro reimagines clothing as a reflection of land, culture, and community—part of a larger movement to revitalize local supply chains and reconnect people to the landscapes that sustain them.
