About this Event

Welcome to Neon Speaks 2019! What to expect: neon talks, demos, case studies, sign design profiles, restoration tips, shop tours, walking tours, book signings, films, and action items for creating a future where neon survives and thrives. MAIN PROGRAM EVENTS (covered by the 3-Day Pass )

April 26 Friday 1–4 PM Neon Curiosity Lounge at the Tenderloin Museum, SF. Part art exhibit, part science fair. Drop in to see amazing neon artifacts presented by a roomful of experts. Satisfy your neon curiosity! Exhibitors listed below. Details and single-event tickets.

April 26 Friday 6:00–9:30 PM Friday Evening Opening Reception and Symposium, Verdi Club, SF. An evening of film, food, drinks, and stories about the designers and champions of historic neon. Presenters listed below. Light fare and drinks included during reception. Details and single-event tickets.

April 27 Saturday 10 AM–3:30 PM Saturday Symposium, Great American Music Hall, SF. A day of neon talks, food, and time to meet the speakers on the front line of the national movement to protect historic neon signs. Bonus: Will Durham will be displaying Reno's famous neon sign of the Mapes Hotel cowboys plus other neon signs the he has preserved. Lunch, dessert, and beverages included. Presenters listed below. April 28 Sunday The Art of Neon with Shawna Peterson, Peterson Neon, Oakland. An ongoing afternoon event with timed tickets for an hour-long demo, What does it take to create a work of art fabricated from neon-filled glass tubes? Watch it happen with neon artist/tube-bender deluxe, Shawna Peterson plus special guests. Details and single-event tickets.

AUXILIARY TOURS* (single-event tickets only, not covered by any pass due to limited capacity)

*April 26 Friday 2:30–4:00 Pm and 4:30-6pm Letterform Archive Tour: A specially curated tour of the Letterform Archive's stacks for anyone fascinated by the history of lettering and signage. Book early, space is limited. San Francisco/Free. Details and single-event tickets. (Waitlist only, if we get enough on the waitlist we will try to add a second tour.)

*April 28 Sunday 1–2 PM and 2–3 PM Neon Works Shop Tour/Demo with Jim Rizzo and Amy Palms. Back by popular demand—if you missed this shop tour last year, here is your second chance! This tour sold out last year. Oakland/$25, Details and single-event tickets.

*April 28 Sunday 7-8 PM and 7:15–8:15 PM Alameda Neon Walking Tour with Devi L. Dahl and MONA's Eric Lynxwiler, later tour with Al Barna and Randall Ann Homan of SF Neon Tours. Take a twilight walking tour of the beautiful neon signs in the historic city of Alameda/$25 Details and single-event tickets.

After the Alameda tour, join us for a no-host farewell gathering at the Forbidden Island Tiki Lounge.

FAQs

When will you announce auxiliary tours and presenter schedule?

We will be adding presenters and extra event updates from January through March 2019. If you join our mailing list, you will be notified when updates are announced.

Can I buy a a 1-day pass or single event ticket to the symposium presentations?

We plan to release a limited number of separate tickets to the Neon Speaks Main Events on February 14, 2019. Auxiliary events will also have separate tickets.

Will you have neon shop tours in Oakland like last year?

Absolutely! Because these tours have limited space, they will be ticketed separately.

How can I contact the organizer with any questions?

If you have a question about the Neon Speaks Festival and Symposium, please contact us through Eventbrite. or via neonspeaks@gmail.com.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Please bring your printed ticket/confirmation email/pass to each event. Alternatively, you can show the Eventbrite ticket/confirmation on your smartphone at registration. Pass holders will be issued a 3-day pass and lanyard at check-in.

Is my ticket/pass transferrable?

If you find you aren't able to attend, you can change the name on the 3-day pass or ticket. Please make the change yourself via Eventbrite by April 23, 2019, to transfer your pass or ticket.

When and where do we check in?

Check-in will begin at 1pm at the Tenderloin Museum in San Francisco on April 26, 2019. You will also be able to check-in at the Friday night event and the Saturday morning event. There will be no check-in desk on Sunday.

When and how can I cancel and get a refund?

Cancellation refunds up to 90% of ticket price will be granted for Early Bird or regular tickets upon request up until April 12, 2019, after which time no refunds will be granted. If you purchased a ticket or pass in error, you can request a refund within 24 hours of purchase, please message us via Eventbrite.

Terms & Conditions

Three-day passes allow one individual’s entrance to all official conference sessions on Friday, April 26 through Sunday, April 28, 2019 at various locations TBD. Passes may only be used by the person whose name appears in the Eventbrite registration form, transfers to a friend or colleague are permissible up until 3 days before the festival start (by April 23, 2019).

Ticket sales are being handled through Eventbrite.com. Confirmation of your purchase will be sent upon completion of registration via email. If you do not see confirmation in your inbox, please check your spam folder. If you have any questions please contact us at neonspeaks@gmail.com for assistance.

Check-in will begin on at 1pm at the Tenderloin Museum in San Francisco on April 26, 2019.

If your plans change and you find you cannot attend, You may transfer your ticket, pass, or sponsorship by changing the name of the ticketholder/passholder in Eventbrite, no later than April 23, 2019. This transfer allows a different person than the original purchaser or registrant to attend. No pass is eligible for use by more than one person.

This event will be photographed and possibly live streamed and recorded. By purchasing or accepting a ticket to this conference you are granting your explicit permission to be photographed, videotaped, and published.

In the unlikely case of cancellation of the conference due to unforeseen circumstance, Neon Speaks and San Francisco Neon will not be responsible for expenses incurred by ticket holders beyond the cost of Neon Speaks tickets.
