About Rob
Founder of The Improv Chippy, Rob flew over to Melbourne, Australia in his early thirties and studied intensively with some of the best comedic talent in Australia. Comedy, in particular improv, changed his life for the better and he has now returned to Grimsby with the hope of gifting the same for others. He has performed in Defrost Festival, the biggest improv festival in the Southern Hemisphere, and in Robin Hood International Improv Festival, one of the UK’s top improv festivals. He hopes to establish North East Lincolnshire’s first Harold teams in 2026 and develop a style of improv unique to the area.
This is a demo workshop for Rob's newest venture, The Improv Chippy, North East Lincolnshire's home of improv and sketch comedy. It was founded in 2025 after local comedian Rob Carr flew to Melbourne, the comedy capital of Australia, and engaged in intensive study with the country's top comedic improvisers. Representing the training lineage of his instructors, the school offers lessons that are a blend of Chicago, New York and LA improv styles, popularized by schools such as iO (Chicago), UCB (NY) and WGIS (LA). One of The Improv Chippy's goals is to blend these teachings with the unique humour of Northern England to give birth to a style that is wholly our own, giving birth to our official slogan: "Chicago Style Improv. Northern Soul".
