Frequently Asked Questions about Networking Night What is the purpose of this event? This event is NOT a job fair. The purpose is to introduce our students to networking in a student-friendly environment. The event is designed to connect our students with employers in the community for job and internship opportunities, along with information about career paths and connections for mentoring and job shadowing. For students, you never know who you will meet and who is connected to who! Even if the company you are looking to connect with is not attending, other employers could open different possibilities you have yet to consider! Who should attend Networking Night? All NECC students who are currently enrolled and/or getting ready to graduate are welcome to attend. Additionally, the event is open to local employers and non-profit organizations who are looking to help young professionals with networking and to connect with them about jobs and internships. What should I wear? We recommend business casual or business professional attire for this event. Please no jeans, t-shirts, sneakers, sweatshirts, sleeveless tops, or shorts allowed. What should I bring? Students should bring an open mind about networking and a willingness to connect with others. Having business cards made for the event is strongly recommended, but not required. This will allow you to provide your contact information to employers for follow up. Inexpensive business card templates can be purchased at an office supply store. You can design and print cards using your home computer and printer. Employers should bring business cards to provide to students. They should also bring company flyers and information to leave on our resource tables, which will be set up in the back of the room. How should I prepare? Students can prepare for this event by reading the handout on “Tips for Networking Night,” which will be provided upon registering for the event. NECC also offers Networking for Career Success Workshops for students to attend. For a complete list of workshops, please visit our website – www.necc.mass.edu/workshops. Can I bring my child or family member with me? This event is open to students and employers only, no outside guests, including children and family members will be allowed to participate. We do not offer childcare at this event. Therefore we ask that you make alternative arrangements ahead of time. Who do I contact if I have more questions? If you have any questions, please contact the event coordinators directly – Deb LaValley at dlavalley@necc.mass.edu or Ashley Moore at amoore@necc.mass.edu
