ABOUT THE HOST:

Kristen is a born and raised Virginia native, Co-Owner & Founder of Penny’s Wine Shop; a wine bar and restaurant located in the Jackson Ward neighborhood of Richmond that is committed to sourcing clean farmed wine from around the world, as well as a locally sourced food menu to complement the carefully curated wine program. She is also Co-founder of RichWine, a monthly wine club that deep dives into 3-4 wines each month through storytelling with a unique nod on Lance (business partner and childhood best friend) and Kristen’s tasting notes. pairing notes, and other fun facts that keep the wine journey exciting each month. During the day, Kristen enjoys independent consulting on business continuity, client service, organizational design strategy, and small business start up. She is a 2012 graduate of the University of Virginia.

Before wine, Kristen worked at the Department of State in Lima, Peru and later transitioned to finance at Goldman Sachs New York for a decade where she worked as a hedge fund client relationship manager focusing on organizational design and operational infrastructure. During this time, her passion for wine came about through travel on her first trip to South Africa in 2014 when she witnessed first hand the beauty of the wine-lands and the intersectionality of wine and food. Kristen decided that bringing great wine to people or taking people to great wine through customized travel experiences is exactly how she wants to spend her time. There, in Cape Town in 2014, is where her wine journey truly began. Her favorite way to bring wine to people is through wine tastings at a client’s company, private gatherings at their homes, and private travel itineraries for clients. For Kristen, the world of wine offers continued education and serves as a gathering place for connection!

Kristen works hard and travels harder, attributing world exploration as the foundation of her love for food, culture, gatherings and wine. In her time away from wine and work, Kristen loves to read, go on coffee dates, think about her next travels, and enjoy nice dinners with family and friends.
