Navigation Training (or Refresher) Workshop
Sun, August 27, 2017, 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM BST
Introduction to map-reading and compass work, this workshop combines navigation teaching with a walk so that participants get maximum opportunity to practice.
Level: 3 out of 5. The walk is gentle with a relaxed pace and many stops to practice navigation techniques and to have lunch, but you need to be happy spending 3 to 4 hours in hilly moorland terrain.
Cost: £20 adults. £10 Under 16's. Pre-booking essential.
Meeting point: Belstone carpark. Grid ref: SX 6209 9379 Post Code: EX20 1RB (Please don't rely on your sat nav to take you to the exact location). Car sharing is encouraged.
What to bring: Map (OL28 Ordnance Survey map of Dartmoor), compass, lunch, drink, sunscreen, waterproof clothing (even if the forecast is fine!), warm layers and walking boots. For advice on compasses, Silva is recommended and a good source is, for example, Dash4it.co.ukwww.dash4it.co.uk/accessories/accessory-type/compasses.html Any of the following would be fine: Silva Starter 8; Silva Field; Silva Ranger; Silva Expedition 4.
I enjoyed 'being out in nature on a part of the Moor I'd not explored before; learning to use a compass and the way this was taught, the pace was great; a lovely group to share this with; time taken to tune in at the start...Can't wait for the next one!' Lynne
Cancellation Policy: The walk will go ahead come rain or shine. Sorry no refunds unless event is postponed or cancelled.
Risk: No liability accepted for accidents or incidents.
