About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

Kansas City Women in Tech and H&R Block are so excited to bring you our summer career series — Navigating Careers in Tech! This series of events centers on panel discussions that will inform and empower those who attend to create a thriving career in technology. Each panel will cover a different stage in one’s career — from just starting out seeking new opportunities, to positioning yourself to where you want to be, to knowing what to expect when leaving your role (to hopefully retiring on a beach somewhere…)

In addition to our panel discussions, we’ll be hosting some hands-on workshops and events to beef up your career tool box. Our events are for people of all skill levels, age groups, and positions, so bring everyone you know!

Join us for the first event — Hello, World! — focused on demystifying what it really takes to land your first job in tech. Whether you're a recent grad, a career switcher, or someone still figuring it out, this panel is designed to give you honest, helpful advice that goes beyond the usual tips. We’ll dive into:

  • How to network when you don’t know anyone yet
  • What to expect when you get a job offer (and how to negotiate!)
  • How to survive the current job market and deal with rejection
  • What interviews actually look like today
  • Resume tips that won’t waste your time
  • Why contracting might be a smart way in

You’ll hear from experienced interviewers, HR pros, hiring managers, and tech professionals who’ve navigated and supported others through these early career hurdles. We’re excited to see you there!

Signups for all of our career series panel discussions at H&R Block will close 48 hours before the event, so be sure to sign up asap!
