About this event

Family & Education • Parenting

This training is designed to support parents in understanding both the fundamentals of autism and the resources available in Texas schools. We’ll begin with an introduction to Autism Basics, including common characteristics, strengths, and challenges, as well as strategies that can help children thrive at home and in the classroom.

Parents will then learn about the Texas Autism Supplement, a section of the ARD/IEP process that outlines 11 evidence-based strategies schools must consider when supporting students with autism. The training will explain what each of these strategies means, how they can benefit your child, and how parents can be active partners in ensuring these supports are included and individualized in the IEP.

By the end of this session, parents will feel more confident in their knowledge of autism, better prepared to advocate for their child in the ARD/IEP process, and equipped with practical tools to foster learning, communication, and independence at home and school.

Tools to be provided following the training include: reinforcer inventory, detailed description of the Texas Autism Supplement, Texas Education Agency recommendations for appropriate completion of the autism supplement by the ARD committee.
