In this workshop we will explore beautiful places, underrepresented spaces and barren landscapes using examples from various genres, such as essays, novels, poetry and children’s books, from authors such as Robinson Jeffers, Edward Abbey, and Arthur Staples Karslake.

In this engaging workshop, you will:

Learn how to effectively communicate scientific concepts to a general audience through writing.
Explore various writing techniques through various genres to make environmental and scientific topics accessible to all readers.
Receive feedback on your work from the workshop leader and peers.

This workshop is geared toward writers of all levels and nature enthusiasts from all backgrounds in order to improve connection with nature, personal writing skills and to reach a wider audience.

Lisa Kerr grew up hiking and exploring the Western United States. She is a children’s book author, playwright, educator, and essayist whose work has been featured in magazines and publications including Huffington Post, New York Magazine, Bustle, and more. After a recent visit to the California super bloom, Lisa was inspired to research and then write Wake, Sleepy One. She lives in Central California.
