Is this a difficult hike?

Accepted Answer

The walk to CWC is along an easy to mildly strenuous section of Piuma Rd and the Backbone trail. Participants should be comfortable walking up to a total of two miles and navigating short periods of uneven or sloped terrain. Trail includes a shallow seasonal creek crossing.

Where do I park?

Accepted Answer

Enter the Tapia Day Use Area parking lot and look for signage for CWC, parking nearby in any available parking. Please observe all posted notices from State Parks about restrictions. Parking fees apply for all attendees, see more information here: https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=614

Question 3

What should I bring?

Accepted Answer

CWC recommends that all attendees wear long pants, hiking boots or shoes, and sun protection. Participants should bring their own water and seasonally appropriate clothing layers. Temperatures on Piuma Rd are commonly 10 degrees colder than nearby Calabasas.

Question 4

Will I see live animals?

Accepted Answer

Along the trail, participants may see a vast range of wild native animals including songbirds, hawks, owls, deer, snakes and more. NO ambassador animals will be available to view or interact with. All of California Wildlife Center's animals are hospitalized patients and are not on display.

Question 5

Do you have accommodations for individuals with limited mobility?

Accepted Answer

CWC's location presents a variety of mobility challenges including short, steep slopes, stairs, uneven ground, mud, stones, and more. Participants are advised that these challenges are inherent in the experience. For questions e-mail cwells@cawildlife.org
