Event description

Description

Ecology is a connective science. Going beyond scientific study alone, integral ecology incorporates social sciences, biophysical sciences, and humanities to include multiple worldviews and perspectives on the natural world. Ecological insights impact our personal and social structures as well. An integral view helps us understand and respond to today’s ecological challenges in a move toward developing a peaceful, just, and sustainable planetary civilization.

Join Sean Kelly, Sam Mickey, and Adam Robbert in conversation with Kat Snow about their new book The Variety of Integral Ecologies: Nature, Culture, and Knowledge in the Planetary Era and discover how wisdom from the humanities and the sciences is being combined for the flourishing of our world.

Sean Kelly is Professor of Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness at the California Institute of Integral Studies. He is the author of Individuation and the Absolute: Hegel, Jung, and the Path Toward Wholeness and Coming Home: The Birth and Transformation of the Planetary Era and the coeditor (with Donald Rothberg) of Ken Wilber in Dialogue: Conversations with Leading Transpersonal Thinkers.

Sam Mickey is Professor of Theology and Religious Studies and Environmental Studies at the University of San Francisco. He is the author of Coexistentialism and the Unbearable Intimacy of Ecological Emergency; Whole Earth Thinking and Planetary Coexistence: Ecological Wisdom at the Intersection of Religion, Ecology, and Philosophy; and On the Verge of a Planetary Civilization: A Philosophy of Integral Ecology.

Adam Robbert is a doctoral candidate studying the philosophy of mind, action, and perception at the California Institute of Integral Studies.

Kat Snow, MA, is a veteran public radio journalist who graduated from the Philosophy, Cosmology & Consciousness program in 2012. She's currently the senior editor at KQED Science, and leads a team of reporters covering climate change, water, energy, and other major science issues in California. Over two decades, Kat has worked as an editor, reporter, talk show host, newscaster, documentary producer and news director. Her stories and documentaries have won numerous regional and national awards. Kat is the public speaking coach for the PCC program's Integrative Seminar at CIIS. She's also a certified Soul Motion teacher, and teaches classes in the Bay Area.
