Natural Dye Workshop - Autumn Leaves: EcoPrinting on Silk

Come join us for a hands-on workshop where you can learn the art of EcoPrinting on silk using autumn leaves! This in-person event will take place at Mana Contemporary, where you'll explore the beauty of natural dyes and create your own unique piece of wearable art. No experience necessary - just bring your creativity and enthusiasm!

About the Workshop:

Create a piece of art that reflects both the season and your intuitive creativity.

In this workshop, we’ll explore EcoPrinting — a dye technique where the color and form of leaves are transferred directly onto silk. We’ll work on a silk scarf, learning how to prepare the fiber, arrange botanical compositions, and develop clear, layered prints.

You’ll learn how to prepare silk to recieve the dye (this step is already completed for you), arrange plant materials for printing, and reveal the color that comes directly from autumn leaves.

Ecoprinting sits somewhere between craft and observation: part technique, part listening to what the leaves want to do. Each piece is truly one-of-a-kind. You’ll be guided through the process step-by-step, with room for your own visual sensibility - whether structured, rhythmic, or more organic and flowing. There’s no prior experience needed, just curiosity!

You will leave with:
• A finished, naturally dyed large 35x35" silk scarf to be worn, tied, draped, or displayed
• Basic knowledge to continue experimenting
• A deeper appreciation for seasonal color and materials around you

When: Saturday, November 22 from 1–3pm
Where: D&B Studio at Mana Contemporary
888 Newark Ave, Jersey City — Studio #500
Enrollment: $85 — all materials included

About the Instructor:

Selina Vesely is a Jersey City–based artist working with natural dyes, textiles, and image-making. Her practice combines traditional dye techniques with ongoing experimentation and observation of the natural world. With a background in photography, sewing, and knitting, she approaches color on fabric much like capturing light. She loves the way natural color shifts with the seasons and enjoys helping others notice and work with these quiet details.
