Objectives and Description of training:
-Review relevant procedures and regulations for vital records
- Train SWs (especially those in hospitals) about relevant cultural practices in Latinx families and how to navigate paperwork required for birth certificates
As part of the CEU, participants will learn about relevant procedures and regulations for creating, correcting, and changing a birth certificate. Participants will learn about the legal procedures for each of these processes and where the social work profession intersects with these needs. There will be a particular focus on working with Latinx families/families with Hispanic heritage. This training includes a cultural competency training for common practices that can complicate the vital records procedure and events that may contribute to greater fear/mistrust of the legal system that is involved with correcting or amending a vital record.
