Welcome to Myth, Metaphors, and Miniatures! This training explores how therapists can use mythic themes, metaphoric storytelling, and symbolic miniatures within sand tray therapy to promote emotional healing and trauma integration. Participants will learn how universal archetypes—such as the hero, guide, shadow, and healer—can be externalized and reworked through miniature-based narratives. This approach supports trauma integration, identity exploration, and emotional healing by allowing clients to externalize their inner narratives through creative and nonverbal expression. Emphasizing nonverbal expression and imaginative engagement, this approach supports clients in reauthoring their internal stories with strength, clarity, and symbolic resolution.

  • Explain how myth and metaphor function as tools for emotional exploration and trauma processing in sand tray therapy.
  • Identify key archetypal figures (e.g., hero, guide, shadow) and their symbolic relevance within client-created sand worlds.
  • Describe the therapeutic value of nonverbal narrative-building using miniatures and storytelling prompts.
  • Apply at least two metaphor-based sand tray interventions to support client expression and meaning-making.
  • Demonstrate how to facilitate a symbolic hero’s journey or healing narrative within the sand tray process.
  • Evaluate the impact of narrative reconstruction on attachment, identity, and emotional integration in clients of all ages.
