Max Morokko from GoCardless will give a talk titled “How Meta Made MySQL Work at Scale.”

In this session, we will explore how Meta evolved MySQL and its system design to handle tremendous scale. Using the user feed feature as a case study, we’ll trace the journey from a basic solution to Meta’s approach, applying principles such as replication, sharding, denormalization, caching, database layer abstraction, and indexing.

Viktorija Vanaga-Jurjeva from Accenture will give a talk "When ORMs Don’t Save You: What Developers Should Really Watch Out For"

ORM frameworks like Sequelize and Prisma are trusted by developers to prevent SQL injection and simplify database work. But as security reviews show, these frameworks sometimes fail in ways that aren’t obvious at first glance.

In this session, you will discover how hidden operator injections, unsafe defaults, and subtle framework quirks can lead to exploitable situations - even in tools designed to protect you. You will learn where assumptions about ORM safety can quietly backfire and what small coding decisions make the biggest security difference.

Viktorija will share real-world cases where ORMs didn’t behave as expected, along with practical lessons you can carry into your own projects. The goal is not to turn you into security experts, but to give you the awareness to know what to question and where to look if something doesn’t feel right in your code.
