Music at Dumbarton Oaks: Jeffrey and Gabriel Kahane
By Dumbarton Oaks Events
Overview
Concert on Sunday, November 23 at 7:00 p.m.
Check-in will begin one hour before the performance.
The father-son piano duo of Jeffrey and Gabriel Kahane teams up for a recital that traces their mutual interest in the overlapping traditions of American and Germanic music, ranging from songs by Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, and Tracy Chapman, to piano works by Bach, Barber, Schubert, and Schumann, interspersed with songs from Gabriel’s catalog. The two-piano program, entitled Guitars in the Attic, culminates in the performance of Final Privacy Song, based on an epic and prescient poem by Matthew Zapruder that considers the vagaries of middle-age and fatherhood against a backdrop of surveillance and climate catastrophe.
