Event description

Description

Let's go for a walk along the country roadsides and woodlands near Margaret Roach's garden in Copake Falls, NY, and see what fungi we can find! In early spring, when the soil temperatures are still low and the air is warm, there are some mushrooms that form that you can only get a glimpse of once a year. We will search for fungi of all kinds -- even in the garden! -- and talk about what these fungi are doing here, how they got here, how we can utilize them like our ancestors and much more. This easy walk will open up your eyes to the fungi that are out there and how to identify them.

Rainy Day Plan B: We’ll do an indoor mushroom ID workshop at Margaret Roach's guest house, next door to her garden, with fresh specimens John collects beforehand.

Registrants will be sent directions of where to meet for the start of the walk.

Note: This event is part of a full day of collaborative festivities including classes on cooking with herbs at HGS Home Chef in Hillsdale, plus flower growing and arrranging next door at nearby Tiny Hearts Flower Farm's new workshop, mushroom growing class and a mushroom walk, and the Open Day garden tours and rare plant sale at Margaret's garden.
