Mushroom Identification & Foraging Workshop
Overview
Mushrooom Walk:
This is an immersive, hands-on introduction to mushroom foraging and forest ecology led by local expert, Starlynn Hartnek. This workshop emphasizes real-world identification skills, seasonal species recognition, and understanding the trees and habitats mushrooms associate with. Expert guides will also point out other seasonal wild foods encountered along the route, Participants will practice observation and identification skills in the field, compare edible species with toxic lookalikes, and use field guides to examine found specimens.
What to Expect:
Participants will receive clear guidance on where and how foraging is permitted, along with local regulations, ethical harvesting practices, and safety considerations. The workshop concludes with a culinary presentation featuring mushroom-based snacks.
Please bring a water bottle, good walking shoes, a hat, and a rain jacket (Farm Discovery Programs run rain or shine).
Accessibility: This workshop includes extended periods of walking, (approximately 1–1.5 miles), bending, and standing. Please inform staff of any necessary accomodations.
Cancellation Policy: Farm Discovery holds a 48 hour cancellation policy pending quantity of sign ups. Cancellation 2 weeks or more before class - credit toward future class. 7 days before class - $50 cancellation fee - remaining balance credit toward future class. 6 days or less before class - no credits. No refunds.
