Overview
Movies as Mirrors: Lucy Liu & Frank Shyong on AAPI Mental Health
Please join us on November 13 for a free screening of "ROSEMEAD," with opening remarks by lead actor Lucy Liu and conversation with journalists Frank Shyong and Josie Huang about the AAPI mental health issues the film raises. A $10 fee will be requested upon RSVP, which will be refunded upon attendance.
ROSEMEAD, set in the San Gabriel Valley, tells the story of a terminally ill immigrant mother who discovers her son's dark impulses and is confronted by harrowing choices over what to do about them. The film grapples with mental health, cultural identity and complex family dynamics -- issues often left unexplored in AAPI communities.
Acclaimed actor Liu, who plays the mother, will introduce the film. Following the screening, award-winning journalist Huang of LAist will moderate a conversation with Shyong, who wrote the 2017 L.A. Times article on which the film is based.
Guests will also receive a $5 gift card, which they can use toward food and drinks at AMC.
Check-in begins at 6:15 p.m.
